Moksha Yoga Nanaimo
Chiropractors Dr. Kristen Butler and Dr. Abe Avender offer
a variety of complementary and supportive approaches to wellness. The two
enthusiastic practitioners met at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in
Toronto and returned to Abe’s hometown of Nanaimo a year ago to help patients
attain and maintain their optimal health. As well as chiropractic care and
injury rehabilitation, Kristen and Abe offer manual therapy (returning function
to tissue), orthotic fittings, sport specific strength training, personal
training, and Moksha hot yoga.
Abe
says, “My goal is to get you better than you were before your injury”. Your
initial visit with Kristen or Abe includes a full history of the injury, a full
physical assessment as well as a treatment. Following and between your next two
or three visits, the onus is on you to continue to stretch and strengthen. This
doesn’t mean you need to have an injury to visit Kristen and Abe. They are
ready and willing to help you maintain your optimal health with an individual
plan of personal guidance along with suggestions for your home practice.
“The
more training we get, the more we can help people”, Kristen says. As well as
being a Doctor of Chiropractic, Kristen is a Certified Strength and
Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Registered Trigenics Practitioner. She
opened the first Moksha yoga studio in B.C., which is part of Island Optimal
Health & Performance.
Moksha
yoga is a unique yoga series that offers a cardiovascular workout to
strengthen, tone and loosen muscles while calming the mind and reducing stress.
A specially heated room allows for deep, safe stretching and promotes
detoxification through sweating. Kristen is able to assist her patients and
yoga students alike in finding balance, in their bodies and in other aspects of
life. Absolute beginners are welcome. You can check the website for class
descriptions and times or drop by to pick up a schedule.
Abe majored in Kinesiology before becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic. He has certifications in multiple manual soft tissue therapies, injury rehabilitation and prevention, golf specific fitness and conditioning programs and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Since he and Kristen opened their practice, Abe continues to treat and train athletes. He will be on the medical team for Team BC’s men’s volleyball for the Canada Games on Prince Edward Island in August.
Kristen
and Abe welcome new patients and look forward to helping you reach your optimal
health.
